What is Hot Work?
Hot work includes activities like welding, cutting, grinding, soldering, or any task that generates heat, sparks, or open flames. These tasks carry a high risk of fire and injury if not controlled properly.

Hazards of Hot Work

  • Fire and explosion from sparks or flammable gases

  • Burns from heat, molten metal, or UV radiation

  • Toxic fumes and gases

  • Eye damage from bright light and sparks

Hot Work Safety Rules

  1. Permit-to-Work System

    • Always obtain a Hot Work Permit before starting.

    • Ensure proper authorization and supervision.

  2. Work Area Preparation

    • Remove or protect all flammable materials.

    • Provide fire-resistant blankets or shields.

    • Keep fire extinguishers nearby.

  3. Ventilation & Monitoring

    • Ensure proper ventilation to avoid toxic fumes.

    • Assign a fire watch during and after hot work.

  4. PPE Requirements

    • Wear flame-resistant clothing, gloves, helmets, and eye protection.

    • Use welding shields and respiratory protection when needed.

  5. Emergency Preparedness

    • Train workers in fire response and first aid.

    • Have an evacuation plan in place.
